Organic Chocolate is created using cocoa beans which have not been treated with synthetic fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. Also, its other ingredients included like sugar, milk, nuts, fruits, spices, etc. must be organic as well.

One of the ingredients of conventional chocolate is corn syrup. Corn syrup is the sweetener that is most often used today in conventional foods products. Yet, Corn Syrup is not food at all. It is a synthetic substance derived from genetically modified (GMO) corn that has no nutritional value. Having too much exposure to corn syrup can cause weight gain, cavities and poor nutrition.

Organically made chocolate, on the other hand is often combined with dates, raisins, and other natural sweeteners such as brown rice syrup, malts syrup, and evaporated cane juice. Unlike corn syrup, these natural sweeteners have nutritional benefits that contribute to an overall healthy diet. In short, it’s totally healthy.

So, if we think to combine the benefits we could get from Organic foods plus in the brown rice, we could really say that Organic Brown rice is healthier choice.

Organic vs. Conventional Foods

Organic Foods, such as organic brown rice, are grown differently than those grown conventionally. For example, organic farmers doesn’t use chemical fertilizers to boost plant growth. Instead, they uses natural fertilizers, such as manure or compost while conventional farmers only uses fertilizers and chemicals. Conventional foods typically uses synthetic insecticides and herbicides to kill pests, weeds and disease. The chemicals in conventionally-grown foods can also leave a residue on produce that may result to disease and even death.

Brown Rice vs. White Rice

White rice came from refined Brown Rice. The refined brown rice loses its side and hull and bran during refining process, making it faster to cook and digest. However, the refining process is where the very components that contains the most nutrients are lost. The side hulls and brans of brown rice are rich in calcium, fiber, magnesium, proteins, potassium and thiamine. Thus, the refining process of the white rice is what makes it less nutritious than the unrefined brown rice.

Nutritional Value of Brown Rice

High in nutrients while low in calories, that’s what makes Brown rice a healthy food. It is a whole grain that passed the USDA’s dietary recommendations of three daily serving of whole grains – each ½ cup of brown rice is equal to 1 serving of whole grains. Brown rice are rich in fiber, which may reduce heart disease and risks for certain cancers. It also promotes good digestion and healthy weight. It is also rich in essential minerals like magnesium and manganese. And most of all, brown rice is a gluten-free food that contains no trans fat or cholesterol and contains a bit amount of fat and sodium.

Those are just few of the many reasons why Organic Brown Rice is healthier and yummier than any other type of rice. So what are we waiting for? Let’s switch while its early! If you want to make sure you are buying certified organic brown rice, pay attention to the label. If the rice is labeled natural, it doesn’t mean it’s organic. Read this article to find out why. The common disadvantage of Organic product is its cost, as organic may cost significantly more than their conventional counterparts. But it’s not as high as the cost we could take if we would let our family eat cheap yet unhealthy foods. Remember, prevention is always better than cure.

How Do You Know if Your Food is Conventional, GMO or Organic? Learn the Tricks Here!

As a health conscious individual, it is important for me to thoroughly check the produce I will consume or share with my love ones. My family’s health depends on my choices that’s why I turned out to be meticulous when it comes to foods. I also want others to be more aware about foods as we are taking it in. Its is preferable to stay organic so I am personally reading labels first if it has organic label.  Now, the challenging part is how to tell if our food is Conventional, GMO or Organic. These are the best guidelines to follow:

How Do You Know if Your Food is Conventional, GMO or Organic? Learn the Tricks Here!, Are you sure of the foods you’re eating? Find out if it’s Conventional, GMO or Organic!, how to identify gmo foods, difference between organic and non organic food, is organic non gmo, how to tell if food is gmo, how do i know if food is gmo, how to know if food is organic, how to know if food is gmo, how to know if food is conventional

You just can’t pick and eat anything nowadays. It is very important to know where your food comes from. Of course you can’t locate the origin of a fruit especially if you just bought it from the market or if it’s not locally grown. But there is still a way. Just by reading its label, you can be able to identify where your food is coming from, through this key indicators!

There are 3 types of organic products; 100% organic, organic, and made with organic ingredients.

  • 100% Organic – this produce is made with 100% organic ingredients. These are the highest quality of Organic products.
  • Organic – this produce is made with at least 95% organic ingredients.
  • Made with Organic Ingredients – aside from 100% Organic and Organic, products labeled with Made with Organic Ingredients are made with at least 70% organic ingredients. The remaining 30% adheres to strict restrictions and won’t contain GMO’s or additives. However, these products don’t have USDA Seal but still called as organic.

The sticker in every food you found on stores is also important for us, organic consumers, to identify if it’s conventional, GMO or organic. This is called the PLU code, or price lookup number printed on the sticker.  Here are the basics of what you should know:

  • If there are only four numbers in the PLU, this means that the produce was grown conventionally or “traditionally” with the use of pesticides. Look at the image below. The last four digits of the PLU code are simply what kind of vegetable or fruit.  A conventionally grown apple has this code: 4131

  • If there are five numbers in the PLU code, and the number starts with “8”, this means that the item is a genetically modified organism or GMO. It is impossible to eat organic produce that are grown from genetically modified seeds so organic eaters must not get worried.  For more added details on GMO, read here. A genetically modified apple would be 84131

  • If there are five numbers in the PLU code, and the number starts with “9”, this means that the produce was grown organically and is not genetically modified. This is the code that you have to remember or be familiar with. An organic apple would be 94131

Now you can go to the grocers confidently and assured that you bought safe foods for you and your family. And here is a list of foods you may not eat organic or with lesser pesticides and chemicals.
